THE POETRY OF DERELICT is a street photography photo blog I am launching in 2016 as personal "visual awareness" upgrade project. It is focused on the city of Belgrade, my home town, but certainly not my favorite place on Earth.
Belgrade is the city of multilayered beauty, enormous cultural heritage, dynamic and sudden, always changing but always the same - a Balkan monster holding enormous Danube by its tale and at the same time cuddling with nimble Sava.
Belgrade is soaked in mnemotopia. "Philosophy" of the place and its actual reality are definitely evoking paradigm shift of the ontological comprehension of the urban settlement. It is literally frolicking with social and cultural spatialization, and it is a heavyweight champion in revealing own wounds, memory wakes, noise.
With busyness that we live in we absolutely do not pay any attention to our closest surrounding. And if we do it is not our "action priority" or "responsibility" to get involved. The city of Belgrade and its cumbrous body shouts with DERELICT. The details of struggle, neglect, aggression and apathy are visible everywhere. With this complexity in perceptiveness of the place my major effort in making a photo is to transform derelict in to poetry, often openly offering cheese aesthetics that are merging derelict with the emotion of nostalgia, even some imaginary social freedom put as a carrot on the stick on capitalistic oppression.
I am not particularly interested in people, but in their activities. I am putting life vis a vis traces of life, and am looking for its existence in its prolonged decomposition.
Apart from mnemopoesia of the city half of the blog is dedicated to Belgrade street art. It is a radiant and versatile scene, and with passion for the creative expressivity I would like to contribute to the mapping of this urban culture activity.
